Bradley ADATS

f37lXih.png

The Air Defense Anti-Tank System (ADATS) is a dual-purpose short range surface-to-air and anti-tank missile system based on the M113A2 vehicle. Oerlikon-Contraves, a member of the Rheinmetall Defense Group of Germany (launcher, radar and fire control) and the American Martin Marietta Corporation (missile). The ADATS missile is a laser-guided supersonic missile with a range of 10 kilometers, with an electro-optical sensor with TV and Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR). The vehicle also has a radar search with an effective range of over

25 kilometers.

ADATS was trialed or proposed on a variety of different platforms to suit the needs of the user for the defense of mobile field formations or fixed sites such as airfields. Besides the M113A2 tracked vehicle chosen by Canada ADATS was also installed on the M2 Bradley chassis for the US Army, the Swiss MOWAG Shark 8x8 vehicle and proposed for the British Warrior MICV chassis. A shelter mounted version either with on-mount radar for autonomous use, or without radar for coordination with a central fire control center could be mounted on a 4x4 or 6x6 military truck or installed in fixed locations. This version was purchased by Thailand. A version mounted on the 4 wheel trailer used for the Oerlikon Contraves Skyguard fire control system and without radar was intended for integration with Skyguard and Oerlikon GDF 35mm guns was also proposed.

The Swiss company "Oerlikon" and the American "Martin-Marietta" worked on a missile at the same time, both anti-aircraft and anti-tank. ADATS SAM ("Air Defense Anti-Tank System") easily hit helicopters from a distance of eight kilometers and armored vehicles six kilometers. The rocket pierced 900 mm of decent armor, which was enough for most of the existing tanks. All of this was installed in the Bradley chassis and loaded with a strange amount of advanced electronics. A 25mm cannon was placed above.

The ADATS was envisaged to be used as an air defense and anti-tank support system for the Army's heavy divisions in Europe, and to be used in a multi-network of the Patriot, HAWK, and Avenger.

Her development progressed another variant of the Bradley ADATS arose; this one pictured below also carried Bushmaster 25mm to add further firepower in the role support.

A unique feature of the ADATS is its beamriding missiles, these missiles fly at an extraordinary speed with both the capability of the TOW-2 missile and the accuracy and anti-aircraft potential of a Roland 3 missile. Due to her advance targeting technology and superior radar functionality she was viewed as unjammable by ECM and invulnerable to SEAD.

This finally culminated with 4 pre-production versions, and an additional 4 production level versions being in the Army's hands ahead of the official 1992 decision to either buy or buy the ADATS.

It would be very good to add the ADATS as a future tier 7 SPAA to the Americans. Seen now the announced Tunguska, the ADATS with its 8 missiles, would be a good opponent to the Soviet vehicle. Although the ADATS missiles are higher than the 9M311, Tunguska takes advantage of the cannons.

+1 also i wish there where better references for the turret ( since we have the Bradley hull so there's no need to model that)as i could model it but cant get a look of the radar housing with the launchers in the way you would happen to have them would you?

hell yes. currently there's no hard counter to the Hinds other than the Tunguska in mixed battles. and the Bradley ADATS will do to tanks with its 900mm penetration the same that the Tunguska does with its, what... 90mm?

won't need an M6 Linebacker when you have this thing. +1

Very interesting, but this missile does not have to control the mouse like Tunguska, just shoot and let do your service
