Spoiler

Hey aizenns,

Thank you for the suggestion, however at the moment we aren't accepting pure SAM vehicle suggestions till at the very least we have developer confirmation that such vehicles will be introduced. Even more so for fire-and-forget type of SAM's instead of the player guided type that for example the tunguska is getting. Please do make a back-up of your suggestion incase this ever changes so you don't have to spend your time doing the same thing twice. :)

Due to the previous reasonsthis topic will be locked and will remain visible for public viewing for the next 48 hours. After this time expires, the thread will be moved to a hidden archive and will no longer be publicly visible.

Answered & Locked. :salute:

We recently reviewed our policy regarding SAM equiped vehicles, including fire and forget types. Due to this we now welcome the submission of that vehicle type as suggestions.

So without further ado,

Open for discussion. :salute:

Should not be in the same BR as Tunguska tho because the lacks of automatic cannons and i doubt MANPAD missile is powerful enough against tanks.

9.0 - 9.3 br is reasonable but 9.7 is the highest br for it.

I'm guessing this is just a proposed project ?

That is perfectly fictional one. That is configuration of Armature Internet Novel.

I just realized that there is no radar on this thing so i wonder how is that gonna work ?

Missile system is infrared. It works by following heat sources, the same function as air to air missiles found on jets in War Thunder right now.

Japan needs more vehicles. And they need a top AA vehicle

On the Type 96 APC. They talk about short-range air defense missile system.

Do any of you know any about it. What was it? Was it made? Could it be useful in WT?

I can't find any info or pics. http://www.military-today.com/apc/type_96_apc.htm

I don't know there are plan that SAM based Type 96. I guess that is one of the vehicle on "Future wheeled combat vehicle" project in 2000s. They plan vehicles series that have same hull.

From this project, "Type 16 MCV", "Wheeled 155 mm Howitzer" and "Close Combat Vehicle" are built, and only Type 16 MCV and Wheeled 155 mm Howitzer adopted.

that website has had dubious claims in the past, especially regarding Japanese hardware. I wouldn't consider them as a source (I've asked them to clarify certain things for me about their claims and they did not have anything to back it up).

since this does not seem to have anyway to engage ground targets as i doubt tank engines are hot enough for a MANPADS to lock on i am very much on the fence about this.
SPAAs should not be fighting tanks sure but they should not be completely defenseless either.
if this was more like the American AN/TWQ-1 Avenger with the single .50 call that would atleast sway my opinion in favour of this.
so my question is did it ever have any kind of machine gun mounted to it? or does it have anyway to engage tanks in a pinch?

It did not, and sadly I believe this is the only SAM vehicle that Japan could receive. However, engaging ground targets isn't a requirements for SPAAGs seeing as the GAZ-AAA (4M) and Mk. VIA AA exist. Its defense against tanks would be its mobility.

they can put up token resistance though.
it will not be effective but they are not completely unable to fire at tanks whilst this vehicle seems completely unable to do so.
isnt the type 81 an option? after a brief wiki search it says the vehicle mounting those missiles can mount one or two .50s for personal defense

AAA is not in any way required to engage tanks in any capacity. This is a vehicle that is made for one job and it does that one job. There's a reason we have a limit on how much AP you can carry in vehicles like the Type 87, SIDAM, etc. This is a SAM. It eats planes and you should expect nothing more. Japan's options are pretty slim when it comes to vehicles like this. This vehicle should not be discounted on account of the fact that it can't pretend to fight tanks with an M2.

if it can not even put up the slightest amount of token resistance or in engage ground targets at all that is in my opinion a very big disadvantage.
