The Consolidated PB2Y Coronado, designed in 1936 but not entering service until 1941, was an American flying boat intended as an improvement on the successful PBY Catalina.  The four-engined Coronado was designed to fill the roles of patrol bomber, transport, and anti-submarine aircraft while carrying a larger payload and better defenses than the PBY.  The aircraft was well-protected, with self-sealing fuel tanks, armor, and eight .50 caliber machine guns for use against enemy aircraft.  It could carry up to 12,000 lbs of bombs or depth charges, or two torpedoes for anti-shipping duty.  As the Coronado was three times as expensive as the Catalina while not offering significant improvements in speed or range, production was limited and the Catalina remained in frontline use throughout the war.  The aircraft were used extensively in the Pacific theater as patrol bombers and transports.  After the war, they were deemed obsolete and most were scrapped, however one complete aircraft has survived.

The Coronado would be an excellent addition to the American bomber tree, fitting right in with the recently-released PBM Mariner.

Love the Coronado! It may be a little on the slow side, but its other characteristics are quite strong -- 8x .50 Cals are no joke, and that bombload is magnificent. My only worry is that it'll end up overtiered like the Mariner currently is (at 3.0, Mariner is too slow and too poor at climbing to get to the base without being intercepted, and although it has similarly strong defensive armament to the Coronado, the difficulty in aiming defensive guns compared to fighters' fixed guns means they often aren't enough to save you.) That's not really an issue with the plane itself, just a worry I have given how Mariner was handled. I'm 100% behind this plane being added: it's a historically important production plane with a unique personality and an appealingly chunky appearance.
