AMX-30(B) SAMM

j5F6nuU.jpg

Introduction:

In 1968 the French Army was posed with a technical dilemma. Despite being developed just five years earlier as part of the failed Europanzer Project, the AMX-30 was beginning to show its age in light of its allied counterparts. The tank was well rounded in its general mobility, mechanical reliability and gun handling but the absence of composite armor meant that the need for a high "first shot first hit" probability was in serious consideration. Army technicians examined multiple solutions to the issue including the design of a modern fire control system and gun stabilizer. Expertise from the private sector was also received and in response French defense firm SAMM developed its own proposal. SAMM had previously done work with the Swiss Armed Forces in regards to the Panzer 61 retrofitting a single model with a two-plane stabilizer with satisfactory results. Work on the AMX-30 began in 1968 and was completed sometime in the same year. In addition to the two-plane stabilizer, a TCV 15 laser rangefinder made by the General Electric Company was installed. Similar results were obtained with the AMX-30(B) however by this time the French Army declined to take further actions citing cuts in the defense budget.

There's gonna be blood on the cobblestones if this is added anywhere else than the tree.

Mind you, I wouldn't mind it personally, but most of the community...

+1 for this as a standard vehicle.  The only AMX-30 with a stabilizer right now is a premium vehicle, there should be a free variant similarly equipped.

I’d love to see this. Between this prototype, its fellow stabilised variant AMX-30C, and the unstabilised but sudden-stop-and-shoot-capable AMX-30A, France should gain some much-needed parity with the other nations which already have stabilised MBTs from this era, e.g. Germany (Leo A1A1), Japan (STB-1/Type 74) and the US (M60A1 AOS).

How much would they have to change on one of the AMX-30 models already in game? To make this?

Would it only be internal things? And AMX-30(B) is that AMX-30B2? Or was there a earlier AMX-30B?

The AMX-30B is the regular AMX-30 we have in game.

Incorrect, this is in fact a modified copy of the AMX-30 Premium (early model) we have in game.

From what I read on this article it's the first mass produced version which is the one we have in game as a premium, the 1972 version having coaxial 7.62 replaced by a 20mm also being an AMX-30B.

The 1972 version replaced the coaxial 12.7mm M2 Browning with a 20mm M693 auto-cannon. The SAMM version I'm suggesting to clarify is an early production AMX-30 with the coaxial 12.7mm.

The AMX-30 (1972) designation has been invented by Gaijin for whatever reason.

Serially-produced AMX-30 MBTs were officially designated as AMX-30B.

Ok so as I said, both AMX-30 and AMX-30 (1972) in game are AMX-30Bs, right?

I always thought the AMX-30 premium was a prototype (not a B production series tank).

The prototype would be the AMX-30A :
