Hello everyone! Today i'm suggesting the adding of a new tank destroyer for China, the Type 89(PTZ-89) Tank Destroyer developed for the PLA.

PTZ-89 Tank Destroyer

History:

Realizing the lack of heavy anti-tank weaponry, the PLA saw itself in an unsuitable position in fighting against heavier armored/modern Soviet and Western MBT. To counter Soviet weaponry, the PLA created the Type 89 program to better suit itself against future conflicts. Thus the creation of the Type 89. Testing of the Type 89 began in the mid-1980's with follow on production beginning in 1989. The vehicle was meant to have a 120mm L/44 Rheinmetall Smoothbore gun however, the company rejected licensing for domestic production. This resulted in China developing its own 120mm smoothbore gun. Around 100 units were produced. The vehicle was recently retired in 2015. This was due to more advanced technology such as next generation ATGM's, the lacking of a stabilizer, and little to no armor rendered the vehicle out of date.

Characteristics:

image.png.bf094b5686dee7d3080fd154c57bfd

The Type 89 is equipped with a domestically developed 120mm (50-caliber) smooth bore gun(30rds) with the following ammunition:

-APFSDS or Armor-Piercing Fin-Stabilized Discarding-Sabot (1660 m/s velocity, 450mm Penetration at 2km)

-HE or High Explosive

-HE-FRAG or High Explosive-Fragmentation

-HEAT or High Explosive-Anti Tank

Ammo stored in rear of turret.

120mm gun is not stabilized.

Semi-automatic loader, 10 rounds per minute.

Effective range 2.5 km.

Indirect fire max range 9 km.

Installed rangefinder.

Elevation:

-8 to 18 degrees

Gradient: 60%

Side Slope: 40%

Vertical Step: 0.7m

Trench: 2.7m

Fording: 1.3m

It also has an anti-aircraft QJC88 12.7mm HMG.

7.62 coaxial MG

45 km/h on roads.

30 km/h in fields.

Hull Armor (Steel):

50/15/10

Turret Armor:

50/15/15

Stowage racks also semi-prevent use of HEAT rounds.

In-game:

The Type-89 (PTZ-89) can help improve the lacking tank destroyer line of the Chinese PLA side. With the strong 120mm gun, this will be a superb counter against tanks using related 120mm guns or higher tiered vehicles. This vehicle would be a very efficient sniper but would fare poor in close encounters due to the lacking of a dedicated stabilizer.

A Type-89, notice the sets of smoke launcher on both sides of the turret. Total of 8 launchers.

As I may have missed it, but this tank looks like its been added to War Thunder's planned vehicle list. Just in case, it's here as well :)

actually it has stabilizer……the problem is that this vehicle's mobility is not good and the protection is weak(only provide protection for 12.7mm)

Also it's 120mm is not a replacement for 120L44. China has developed its own 120mm from 1960s, it can be traced back to the project 122.

Hey, sorry. No disrespect or anything but I haven't found any sources to say the vehicle has a stabilizer and not much on the WZ-122 gun. From all the sources I've seen, the gun development began in 1978 (maybe there was some traces from the WZ-122 project being a base to develop from) due to Rheinmetall refusing to provide the newer technology of the 120mm L/44. The original plan was to use the West German 120mm L/44. It also was not designed with a stabilizer from everything I looked at. So its not as much a replacement, but since they were denied the western technology, this was there solution. However, if you can provide me more information on it, I look forward to seeing it :) Appreciate the feedback btw.

This would be an excellent addition, I also note it's on the Chinese tree Gaijin has on their announcement post for China, so it is pretty much confirmed, only a matter of time I suppose. +1 either way!
