Jeanne d'Arc (1930)

YAGwtmQ.jpg

Introduction:

Another French cruiser for the proposed French naval tree, the Jeanne d'Arc delivers respectable firepower with good speed for a school ship. Crewed by naval cadets she is no combat veteran but provoked they will not question to annihilate you in French fighting spirit. Like many of her baguette counterparts the Jeanne d'Arc has little armor to spare but makes up for this at her superb speed and AA suite. A knight of the seven seas, chivalry only leaves the strong begging for mercy.

General History:

After World War 1 the French Navy (Marine Nationale) sought to replace and modernize its aging fleet of pre-dreadnoughts. To train cadets on these new vessels a training ship was needed to maintain crew proficiency. In September of 1928 the Jeanne d'Arc was launched and was completed in less than two years later being commissioned on October, 1930. The ship was quite modern for its time featuring state of the art fire-control gear and AA weaponry. Throughout the 1930s she took part in diplomatic voyages around the world as a representative of France looking to increase political influence. As a result France gained valuable relations with much of the Latin American nations which would later come to her aid during the war. Come the second world war, Jeanne d'Arc was part of the West Atlantic Division blockading German ports and being the safeguard for the transport of French national gold to Canada. In 1943 she became part of the Free French forces receiving modernization of her AA suite and taking part in the allied landings in southern France the next year. For her honorable efforts during the war the French government bestowed upon the ship "quote to the order of the nation," a one of nation's highest military decorations. Post-war the Jeanne d'Arc resumed her duties as a school ship completing 27 voyages until 1964 when she was replaced the La Resolue, a helicopter carrier and renamed "Jeanne d'Arc" once more.

Don't really know for this one. He is similar to the duguay-trouin but with a better AA.

So, i think this could be a premium or a event vehicules.

The original AA suite is correct by most sources however I am personally skeptical of the AA seen in the 1943 refit. I don't think I've ever seen that much AA packed onto a cruiser (even for a school ship) unless the French were really that adventurous. I'm hoping in the next few weeks to access some additional information that can shed light on the 1943 refit. If you know any additional information don't hesitate to tell me.

The ship are to  close to the Dugay-Trouin class for not be a premium

1 ) The Dugay Trouin was the first step into the " modern world " for the french navy , in fact it's basically an WW1 design built  in the early 20's .
It's an excellent  low tier cruiser
Artilery : Excellent ( for her time )
Torpedoes : 12 X
Speed : 30 kn at half power & 33 at full power  .
It is reported that Dugay Trouin max speed was over 30  kn after the war ( engine worn & US refit )
Armor
After WW1 it was simpler & cheaper to  produce a ship whithout armor .
The ship are procted by splinter-proof armor & bulkhead ( double hull around engine room )

Whive no doubt , they were not the first choice for  " go to war  "  . Decent during the early 30's ,  the French navy planed their replacement early .
During WW2 , they served in a kind of second choice .

- The Dugay Trouin gave munerous fire-support to landing force . .
-The cruiser Lamotte-piquet  show her teath at the battle of Koh chang , bringing terror to  thai navy .

2 )  The Jeanne d'arc cruiser  was an "unecessary ship "  .in the context of the 30's  ! It's probably an " unecessary ship " for the game

The cruiser is slow , whive a top speed of 25 kn , have no torpedoes ( 12 for the Dugay-trouin ) & an equal AA power after her refit .
