Phantom FGR.2 - Adding AIM-9G

Suggestion: Phantom FGR2 missing AIM9G

Aircraft affected: Phantom FGR2 

Solution: give the phantom FGR2 the AIM9G

 

With the F4E and EJ receiving the AIM9J the phantom FGR2 should now receive its AIM9G.

 

AIM9G quick summary of the missle, it was developed on from the AIM9D had improved reliability and added features along with performance improvement. SEAM function was added this allowed the missle to be slaved to radar before launch. Performance improvements included a increased Motor burn time(5seconds) and improved G limitations(18G).

 

The AIM9G had the same track rate of 12°sec/18000m range/iFov of 2.5° and gimble travel of 40° as the AIM9D

 

Speed is Mach 2.5 above launch speed so travelling at mach 1 would result in mach 3.5 missle speed etc

This just makes sense.  There is no "better" version of the F-4 available for the British so they should give the F-4M all of the stuff available with other F-4s in game.  I.E. Better missiles, jammers when they come out...etc.

The FGR.2 will hopefully not remain static. It should start getting more and more kit as things move forward. After all it was used until the 1980's and access to much more modern kit. Skyflashes and AIM-9L's come to mind for future additions.

In this case however i see no reason at all to not add the AIM-9G when the AIM-9J is being added to the other phantoms. So it's a +1 from me.

The FGR never carried AIM-9Ds, only the G and L variants. As previously mentioned, it also carried the Skyflash missiles but I doubt we'll see radar AAMs soon unfortunately.

Sure it might be awhile before we get Skyflash, but perhaps some other guided ordnance as they get introduced (like Maverick).  Hey OP...does that manual discuss Ground Ordnance that isn't in the game?  Okay.  I don't want to get off topic.  FGR.2 needs AIM-9G, it's getting a bomb computer and flares.  Are there other posts we can submit and discuss concerning other missing ordnance?

AS op noted, IN terms of performance stats AIm9G its basically the same missile as the Aim9D, the only difference lies that you have a "SEAM" mode where the IR seeker head can uncaged to followed target offboresight,  be slewed onto target via helmet mounted monacle off boresight, or via radar lock.

 

any arguments on potential A Historical armament aside I think peoples complaints with the AIm9D being ill adequate is because its poorly implemented in game. IF its values fixed to its IRL documented values it would be a better missile than the Aim9E, and put the FGR2 at a better standing.

 

IF gajin fixed AIm9D values and added AIm9G without  developing associated SEAM mechanics it would otherwise behave like the same missile.

ID also throw in that SMIN disagrees with regards to the Phantom having AIm9G as starting missile. According to his "opinion" and his "documents" , the AIm9D is accurate for the FGR2 because it was used during testing and during iniitial squadron conversion training a year before the FGR2 was approved for operational service ( same year as Aim9G introduction)

 

 

 

 

So if this is Gajin stance they wont implement AIm9G on the basis that AIm9D is wrong if they believe Its correct., but only when the feel its nessary for the FGR2 to get a better missile.

 

Given update 1.97 upcoming new missiles like the Aim9J (being even better than R60), and flare dispensors now being a thing, there can certainly be a case made for adding the Aim9G to boost the FGR2's competitiveness.

they use the AIM-9L model on the dev server to simulate the model of the "J" so we need the live server to see how good it'll be compare to the R-60

but yeah i agree we need the AIM-9G and an earlier british phantom like this the FGR2 can have skyflash and AIM-9L while the earlier FGR only carry AIM-9D and early sparrow

I think this is the point.  With the new missiles coming into the game AND the fact that Britain can't get a more advanced Phantom...Just give the Good Stuff to the FGR.2
