Hello, i would like to suggesting another wheeled TD for Japan. It is a slightly different Type 16 which could be placed at a lower BR.

Introducing the Type 16 prototype number 3 serial number 99-0292.

About the Type 16 MCV.

Type 16 Mobile Combat Vehicle (abbreviation: MCV (Maneuver Combat Vehicle)) is the first wheeled armored vehicle for full-scale fire support of the Ground Self-Defense Force.
The center of the development of this vehicle was the Land Equipment Research Institute (Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture) of the Technical Research and Development Institute (TRDI) of the Ministry of Defense.
At the time of development, this vehicle was simply called a "mobile combat vehicle."

The main contractor for the trial production and production of mobile combat vehicles is not Komatsu Ltd., which has been involved in the development of all wheeled armored vehicles of the Ground Self-Defense Force, but Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, which has specialized in tank development. ..
There are various speculations about the reason for this, but it is thought that Mitsubishi, which has a wealth of experience in tank development, was selected because this vehicle is a vehicle for anti-tank combat.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries was in charge of developing the body of the mobile combat vehicle, and the bulletproof steel plates that make up the body were developed by Mitsubishi Nagasaki Kiko.

Many other domestic manufacturers are involved in the development of mobile combat vehicles, with the main gun being Japan Steel Works, FCS (fire control system) being Mitsubishi Electric and NEC, ballistic computer being Yokogawa Electric, optical instruments for inspection and aiming are in charge by Nikon and Topcon, Fujifilm is in charge of image processing, and Tamagawa Seiki is in charge of the gun stabilizer.
The Mobile Combat Vehicle is a new genre of AFV developed based on the National Defense Program Guidelines formulated in 2004, keeping in mind the world situation after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 in the United States.

According to the policy evaluation report prepared in 2006, regarding the operation of this vehicle, "Equipped with armored units, it can be quickly deployed with excellent mobility such as air transport and road mobility in dealing with various situations, and at the same time. It is used to destroy enemy armored fighting vehicles, including light tanks, by direct shooting from the medium range. "
At this time, 2.6 billion yen was recorded as the initial required cost, and the development end time was planned to be 2013, and the total development cost was planned to be 17.1 billion yen.

In the following 2007 policy evaluation report, the mobile combat vehicle was deployed to the combat unit instead of the armored unit, the total development cost was revised to 17.3 billion yen, and the end time of the test was extended to 2015.
Full-scale development of this vehicle started in 2007, and initially it was basic development for each department, but from 2009, it shifted to system development and trial production of the turret part and body part has started.

The following year, in 2010, it is moved on to trial production, and during the same year, there was one turret part (for shooting test mounted on the gantry) and one body part (for vibration test without engine or transmission).
And in 2011, as a prototype (No. 2), the turret part (No. 2) with the FCS, aiming device, drive device, etc., and the body part (No. 2) with the engine, transmission, etc. were installed one by one and the body part is equipped with a prototype gun manufactured in the previous year, and its stability during shooting and running is tested.

In 2012, the turret system, body system, and test mount were rebuilt as a prototype (No. 3), and in 2013, four prototype cars were manufactured as a prototype (No. 4), the first of which was released to the press on October 9th.
From 2014, a practical test was conducted using four prototype vehicles, and since the test results were good, it was formalized as a "Type 16 mobile combat vehicle" in 2016, and it was decided to adopt it for the Ground Self-Defense Force. ..
The number of Type 16 mobile combat vehicles procured was 36 in 2016, 33 in 2017, and 18 in 2018.

The procurement price of this vehicle is about 720 million yen per vehicle. In comparison to the Italian B1 Centauro combat reconnaissance vehicle, the South African Rooikat combat reconnaissance vehicle, and the American striker MGS, which is armored vehicles for fire support of the same class. It is a little expensive compared to about 500 million yen.
The Type 16 maneuver combat vehicle will be preferentially deployed to the newly created ready-to-use mobile regiment, and then all tanks deployed in Honshu and Shikoku can be replaced with this vehicle. It is scheduled.

Breakdown of Prototype Compartment

''There was one turret part (for shooting test mounted on the gantry) and one body part (for vibration test without engine or transmission).

The body of the third prototype is similar to the second prototype seen below, the side of the hull is inclined.

But unlike the second prototype which had its engine on the rear, the engine is however in the front on the third prototype.

There are many prototype built i chose vehicle of  the third stage because this vehicle was shown to the public by Land Equipment Research Institute in 2018.

So there are many photos of this vehicle posted all over the internet, at least from the Japanese side.

As you can see here the vehicle lacked add on modular armor except for the front of the turret which is a  arrow head design, different to the production model which has a wedge shaped turret.

While there is no information on its protection but  it is safe to assume that the armor is the same as Type 16 minus the add on modular armor.

Specifications:

Crews: 4 people. Driver, Commander, Gunner & Loader.

Mass: 26 Tons.

Engine: 570 HP/T at 2100 RPM. (21.9 HP/TONNE)

Maximum speed: 100 KM/ H forward & 36 KM/H in reverse.

Armament:

1x JSW L/52 105 mm

1x Type 74 TMG

1x M2 50. Cal

8x Smoke dischargers

Ammunition:

(Based on the already existing MCV in the game)

Type 93 APFSDS

M735 APFSDS

Type 91 HEAT-FS

Type 75 HESH

M416 Smoke

RoF: Stock 8.7 sec, Aced 6.7 sec.

Main features of the Prototype No.3 that differ itself from the mass-production vehicles.

vMRga1b.jpg

On the side we can see 4 exposed smoke dischargers.

The commander cupolar is taller than the one on production vehicle.

A mount for M2 50. cal is visible and unlike the production vehicle it is attached to the commander's hatch.

Just like the production vehicle it featured laser warning reciever.

Doz32SEUwAE7HeZ?format=jpg&name=medium

On the rear there is a port with black stain, looks like a smoke exhaust at first, the person who posted this image asked a member, it is an APU which was only installed on this prototype and can not be found on the mass-production vehicle.

OubNPvD.jpg

In this picture we can see that there is another Laser Warning Reciever installed below the antenna (both left and right side) unlike the mass-production vehicle which only has 2 devices installed in the front.

On the rear there is a wind sensor device which doesn't exist on production vehicle.

Looking closerly to right side of the image it looks like the turret has  a spaced armor bolted onto it.

cLY8tvO.jpg

Both gunner sight and commander sight appeared to be the same as the mass production type 16.

Note there is a hatch opened infront of commander's hatch, this hatch doesn't exist on the production Type 16. Does this mean the gunner has his own hatch ?

x5piS6u.jpg

The CITV, yes this means both gunner and commander get access to thermal.

Seems like the side of the turret has bolt on armor bolted onto it.

Note: On the mantlet of the prototype there are 3 holes but on the production vehicle there are only 2 holes, direct gun sight on the left and coaxial MG port on the right.

I do not know the purpose of the thrid hole on the prototype.

My own vehicle stats i did last year.

Spoiler

Type+16+stats+card.jpg The weight is gone by 1 ton because the removal of armor, this is fictitious!

More information are welcome!

Interesting suggestion; nice job finding this prototype and pointing out all of the differences between it and the production model we have in WT already. IIRC the Type 16 in WT has hullbreak so I'm not actually sure this version missing the modular armor will matter that much, but still - anything to bolster Japan's high-tier line-up is welcome.

As much as i love Type 16 that hull break mechanic preventing me to fully apperciate of how good the Type 16 can actually be, it is a unfortunate.

But yeah, the Type 16 even with add on armor can not withstand any anti-tank munition so you wont notice the difference much with this vehicle, however the Type 16 is more survivable if you get hit my heavy machine guns or auto cannon from both air and ground thanks to the decently good protection on both internally and externally on the Type 16.

This vehicle with only steel armor is not capable of withstand both MGs and tank guns so imo it is enough to be at 8.7.

Here are all the 4 different turret types.

type+16+turrets.jpg

From top to bottom.

MCV Prototype No.3

MCV Prototype No.4

Type 16 MCV Early ? (it is said to being a prototype although beside its turret shape everything else looks exactly like production vehicle so idk what prototype this vehicle is.

Out of all the 4 prototypes, this isn't one of them. Is there a fifth prototype?).

Type 16 MCV (Currently is in the game).

If this was added at around 8.7 that would make Japan really strong at 8.7, I would definitely like to see this, it would compliment the Type 74s, Type 87, and Type 89 very well.

Seeing how Gaijin recently are starting to add light tanks as Tier 6 premium for GE such as WMA 301 and TAM 2IP, this thing might could potentially become a Japanese version of 8.7 premium for GE, just have a feeling about it.

Unless the ammo is artificially limited, it doesn't make sense to have it at a lower BR than the Type 16 in-tree. A premium at 9.0 could work.

It is suggested 8.7 because it can be 50. cal unlike the production vehicle with add on armor it can withstand 50. cal even from the side and from the front it can stop upto 40 mm APFSDS at some certain distance.

Beside the Rooikat was given DM33 and it sitting at 8.7, so i don't see why it should not be 8.7 even if it is added with Type 93 APFSDS.

By the way i made a mistake, because this vehicle is not adopted so it is simply referred as maneuver combat vehicle (MCV) so if it is added into the game it should be called simply as MCV Prototype No. 3 or something like this.
