F-1 No. 70-8207 of the 8th Tactical Fighter Squadron with AIM-9Ls at Misawa Airport. Sept. 13th, 1992.

The Mitsubishi F-1 is a twin engine strike aircraft used by the JASDF from 1976 to 2006. Based off the earlier Mitsubishi T-2, it was the first domestically designed supersonic dedicated combat aircraft to enter service with the JASDF, where its primary roles included anti-ship attack and ground attack. It was powered by two Ishikawajima-Harima TF40-IHI-801A afterburning engines, which is a license built version of the Turbomeca Adour Mk 801. Equipped with 4 hardpoints, the F-1 could carry an array of fuel tanks, unguided and guided bombs, rockets, anti-ship missiles, air-to-air missiles, and countermeasure pods, in addition to the internally mounted 20mm JM61A1 rotary cannon. In terms of internal equipment, the F-1 utilized the J/AWG-12 FCR, the J/ASQ-1 FCS, the J/ASN-1 INS, J/AWA-1 anti-ship missile control system, the J/APN-44 radio altimeter, the J/A24G-3 air data computer, and the J/APR-3 RWR system. In addition, the F-1 utilized the 97JP-1 Kai optical aiming system.

I have a question. Was the F-1 equipped with the AIM-9E in reality?

Well, since the F-1 was introduced in 1978 and the AIM-9E was retired from service in 1986 I think it would be safe to say that they at least equipped them once. Both the F-1 and T-2 used the AERO-3B launcher rail which was compatible with AIM-9Es. It would be nice to have AIM-9Es or AAM-1s as the first missile to unlock with AIM-9Ps after that similar to how the T-2 has AIM-9Bs as the first unlock with AIM-9Es as the second.

Pic of a F-1 that has AIM-9Ps on found by @Miki_Hoshii

Also a lot more info found by him in the T-2 thread plus someone who listed some books about it's radar and missiles could be help full. Maybe we can somehow put them here.

So I just figured id collect some bomb and missile images below for you guys. Though dev servers are subject to change, so its possible it'll be sorted out by the time the patch goes live. I've omitted things that we don't have implemented in WT for the time being (ASM's/Chaff etc) though I will include the AIM-9L just to keep all the Sidewinders lumped together.

Is AAM-1 so good? According to Japanese Wikipedia, AAM-1 was developed with the same aim as AIM-9B. Personally, I think it looks similar to the AIM-9B, but what do you think?

Are we sure that he is referencing AAM-1s or is he just using the term "AAM" for air to air missiles?

It can be read as simply saying, "We are planning to install a new missile." We would be disappointed if this was the AAM-1 or AIM-9B. On the other hand, I would be happy if it was AIM-9J. By the way, I think the next generation of missiles in air combat will be the AIM-9J & L. Are there any Japanese fighters that are expected to be equipped with such equipment? Japan's next-generation fighter is the F-4EJ Kai or the F-15J, but both equipment look like the L & AAM-3. This is equivalent to L & M in the United States. As far as I know, F-1 is the only fighter that could meet this requirement(J&L).

PS. By the way, as far as the stream is concerned, the spoiler model mistake that occurred on the T-2 remained.

iirc the only Japanese aircraft currently in the game that should get AIM-9Ls are the F-4EJ and the F-1. The T-2 was in service after AIM-9Ps were retired so the only missile that it would carry from roughly 1991 to its retirement in 2006 would be the AIM-9L, but I think it's the consensus that the T-2 should not get AIM-9Ls so that it can stay at a lower BR while also allowing the F-1 to be a bit more unique than it would've been if they both had the same missile armaments.

The only problem that I can see with the devs deciding to give the T-2 4 sidewinders is that they would then need to also give it a new model because the T-2K that could carry 4 sidewinders is slightly different from the T-2 that could only carry 2.

Bad news guys It’s confirmed that the AIM-9L isn’t coming(atleast for this patch), just came from the british air section and smin posted this.

This wont need a report. AIM-9L could be fitted to a variety of aircraft in game, but we haven't added it for any yet since its all aspect and would be a huge issue for balance. ”

That's not really bad news. I think most here knew AIM-9Ls won't be coming for planes this patch. But it can use AIM-9Ps which are equivalent to the AiM-9Js in game. In fact the EJ has AIM-9Js even tho it should be named AiM-9Ps. So the F-1 if possible should have access to AIM-9J/P(depending how gaijin wants to call it) in game which at 10.3 needs them.

Yeah, I wasn't at all expecting the AIM-9L to make its appearance because it is an all aspect IR missile that would kick mostly everything out of the sky at close range given how few aircraft actually have flares now. However, if it doesn't have AIM-9Ps (or if devs are lazy AIM-9Js) then we're gonna have a problem. Given how stupidly long the F-104J problem has been taking I am somewhat concerned about the F-1 not getting AIM-9Ps so I hope they make an appearance on the dev server or at the latest on the live server.

I think this is the right decision. However, by the time John Boyd's aircraft is flying over the WT, the AIM-9L will be used as well. After all, it's just the difference between early and late.

I'd rather the T-2 and F-104 remain with 9Es so they're the "entry" level Mach >1 fighters when top tier eventually gets decompressed

Last time I asked smin about the 104 he told me that the devs were aware that it could carry more than 2 missiles and I think smin also said that the devs were aware that it could carry AIM-9Ps, so I guess we'll have to see what happens. I mean best case scenario it gets the Ps but has a variable BR depending on what missiles are selected before battle.

How about its RWR?

I don't remember seeing an RWR for the F-1 on the dev server, that's something that's going to need to be reported.
