TheSurvivor10859@psn 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2021 I have noticed that no matter how much I shoot some enemies, I can barely deal damage to the point that I sometimes go through 3 ammo cooldowns (with 75% of the bullets in each run hitting) just to destroy a biplane, I have had people shoot me down in a quick burst, not the pilot getting knocked out but my plane just getting ripped up even by basic machine guns, this is all with a max upgraded 2.7 BR plane so armor is maxed out, and sometimes it feels ridiculous, I've tried every ammo belt and all of them go through the same cycle, fire, fire, fire, get ten critical hits without killing the enemy then someone comes up from behind with a reserve plane and blows me up in a single burst. it would also help if someone can explain the aiming system for a console player because it seems that too often I get very specific bits knocked off, because there is no way that every fight I get into its the same firing pattern from the enemy, wings, then tail and then engine. there has to be a better way to aim than some half hearted circle that doesnt even function properly. anyuser 5,136 Report post Posted October 11, 2021 We got weapons from 7mm to 105mm for planes. We got various types of ammo that are more or less effective. We got planes that are more resistant to hits (or simply are very big with a lot of empty space). Even for the reserve planes ammo can be very different. Just compare the japanese 7mm belt to the russian API-Flamethrower. There is no "maxed out" armor in game. But there are parts of the plane that are more or less vulnerable. You should check the X-ray module view in the hangar. If you shoot the lead indicator you will hit the center of the plane. Usually the empty tail behind the pilot. You can pump a lot of bullets through there without doing much. While the same burst will shred a plane when hitting the frontal part of the plane. Don't shoot from behind but attack from above/below or from the side. And let the enemy fly through your rain of bullets.

If you're playing with a controller you will never achieve the same level of accuracy as players on PC using mouse and keyboard. It's a handicap we pretty much have to accept and learn to deal with. You can plug a mouse and keyboard to your console and play that way, but from personal experience the mouse recognition is pretty garbage, at least on PS4 (haven't tried on PS5). Rifle-caliber machine guns (7mm/.30) usually require a sustained burst to do significant damage and that is difficult when you can only get a few bullets on the enemy at a time. Try something with .50 cals or 20mm cannons, as they require less time on target to do damage. Needless to say, if you get access to those guns so will your enemy, which leads to the next point: Don't get hit. That should be your first and foremost method of defense. And before you post the Hank Scorpio "Oh my goodness why didn't I think of that!" meme, I say it because armor in planes is kind of irrelevant. No plane in the game is meant to take hits, not even the IL-2 or any other plane famous for being survivable. Being damaged is almost a death sentence in most situations. The best advice I can give is to practice and always pick your fights. You'll have trouble shooting planes that are flying defensively and you'll also have trouble flying defensively yourself because of your control method. Try to pick off targets that are distracted or that won't have an easy time shaking you off. Try experimenting with your control settings and find something you feel comfortable with, I'm pretty sure some people can offer good advice over in the PS4/5 section of the forums. Also consider giving RB a try, it's not for everyone due to the slower pace but I find it considerably less frustrating than the hectic chaos of AB.
