How to have fun in War Thunder

I offer a simple four step program to let go of your inner sanctimony and embrace your inner strafing warthog.

First

LEARN

You do have to learn the game a bit, both the mechanics and how it works climbing tech trees

Practice makes perfect.

Figure out what you want to do--gets lot of kills, get a high K/D ratio, or just have fun and not get blown up too much

Find a combo of planes and air forces that works for you and stick with it for awhile, then go up a step

Figure out controls, the right ammo to use, retaining or expending energy in turns, and attack angles

Second

ACCEPT

You will have bad days

You will run into spawncampers, team killers, and people wanting to ram you for fun.

Your skills will plateau at some point.

You will run into someone better than you who pummels you

You will run into people who only want to aggravate you

You will have fights where it seems like you're the only one with an under 350 ping.

You will make bad choices or do stupid things

Third

LET GO

In the end it is just a game, no one will give you a job or applaud you on a stage from your high scores.

Even your most amazing game won't matter in a few days.

The really obnoxious players eventually leave or change their handles and skulk off somewhere.

It's okay to play at a lower BR than what "experienced" players do, or even just quit the game for awhile.

It's the planes you like and the playing style you enjoy, not what the "Git Gud" people tell you.

It's better to try and fail than pretend you never made a mistake.

You don't want to remember endless rounds of bad blood, and avoid getting into those situations.

Fourth

EMBRACE

Playing just to enjoy the game, and if fate deals you a good turn then go for the win.

Your tastes and ideas change, you may love one particular plane but it's okay to fly others.

Experiment in fighting style and patterns, you may surprise yourself.

Bad days aren't permanent, but then neither are good days, each will come around.

It's what you got out of the match that matters.
