i would like to make a suggestion for a rather unique tank, the Swiss MOWAG Gepard Jagdpanzer also know as the HM-13 Cheetah

ftKIPHM.jpg

If you played the German and see this vehicles, you would find a suspicious similarity with the German JPz 4-5. this is not without reason, this tank was related.

The mowag Cheetah or also know as Mowag Gepard was the Swiss proposal to the Bundeswehr (Germany army) to the their request for the assault gun recycling the M47 patton's gun. the Cheetah was built in 1960 and was in competition with VERY similar proposition from Henschel and Hanomaq. the Gepard was featuring pretty much the same design, it had the same armour, same top speed and same armament. the vehicles was about as good as his competitor. one of the feature that was giving it a few small advantage was the remotely controlled LMG on the roof which allow the vehicles to have close defence from the safety of his armour instant of fithing from the hatch, NBC protection, automatic fire detection and extinguishing and the less essential for the cold mountain, the air-conditioning. but ultimately the version from Hanomaq was choose, mainly because of their vehicles had a superior mobility in reverse.

the concept of the assault gun offer quit his advantage. the most important been the low profile. this allow the tank to hide easily. another advante is the light weight which allow a higher mobility. but on the other side, this design offer some flaws, the main one been the limitation of the main gun who can only point toward the front. this concept was rather obsolet in 1960s and was more actual during WW2. but as this vehicles was often cheaper and easier to maintain than the main tanks, it was often still considered as a good alternative.

the Gepard was never offered to the Swiss army. because the Swiss army was just not interested to acquired an assault gun again. only Germany had truly show interest in this design. but Mowag still owned the prototype and not Germany just in case they could pull something out of it. such as developing the tank further or selling it to someone else. but nothing really came out of it. the prototype was preserved in the Museum of Full (where most Mowag prototype are preserved.)

Firepower

the main armament of this tank is a 90 mm Panzerabwehrkanone. this was actually a swiss designation for the BK90 who was itself a modification of the American M36. this gun is designed to fire only chemical energy rounds. this mean it use HESH, HEAT and HE rounds. not kinetic energy rounds are know to be used with this gun. this allow damage that is always the same regardless of the distance but also have many flaws such as less damage than the regular rounds and is also easy to block. the gun have a horizontal arc of 15° on the left and right and a elevation of -8° to +15° which is in overall pretty decent for his need. for close defense, the tank also feature a remotely controlled turret who is armed with a 7.62mm MG 3 and have an elevation of -15°/+55°. this turret have a full 360° rotation which could possibly allow the player to get out of trouble when someone sneak behind you.

Mobility

This tank is powered by a MOWAG M 10 DV 13500 TLK offering nothing less than 543 hp. the tank is fairly light with 24.8 tonnes. this give it a power-weight ratio of 21.90 hp/ton which is pretty high for such vehicles. the transmission designed by Mowag offer 6 forward speed and 2 backward which allow for a excelent and smooth acceleration and decent reverse speed. the tank can reach a speed of 70 km/h forward which is a pretty good top speed and probably around 16 km/h backward.

Forward Reverse Weight (tons) Engine power (horsepower) Power-to-weight ratio (hp/ton)

Protection

the protection is not well documented, but based on the weight and size of the vehicle and the design and his purpose, this tank probably have the same protection as the german JPz 4-5. the vehicles is still exhisting at Full's museum which allow us to check the armour thickness if need to. but from now, i will only assume the armour is like his German competitor. the front armour should reach 50mm with heavy slope and 30mm on the side. this armour value is not that thick be it's still capable to save you from some damage. the crew reach 4 men which is pretty decent for a tank without turret. the

fair enough,

but in the eventuality that the Swiss nation is added, i still preserve hope that this vehicles would fall into the Swiss tech tree as it was still a private venture and the vehicle is still own by

Mowag. but at this point, it would be more at the discretion of the developers.

+1 for a future Swiss/Alpine tree.  Though failing at that, this one in particular could be added to the German tree and I'd be okay with that as well.  :salute:

Till now vehicles produced in a country existing in war thunder for another country always did go into the country which it was produced for or was tested (for example amx super, tams etc.). This vehicle should go into the german tree to not break this rule, because otherwise many nations claim vehicles from other nations already ingame or not introduced at all (which I am in favor for) since the jpz4-5 is very similar

atually it's up to Gaijin decision.

for example, the DF105 was build and tested in france. but ended up in germany (i do not think it even set foot in Germany) and the AMX 30 Super was build in Arabia by German engineer who wasn't affiliated to the German government. the T18E2 was actually in services in small number for the British army but USA suffer more than UK so it ended up in USA for some reason.

in this case, the Gepard was the basic version of the vehicle in competition with the German JPz 4-5. but the Cheetah was a improved development of the same vehicle after Germany tested the Gepard. the improvement was the air conditioning and fire-supression system (which have no effect on the game-play, you will still have to research the FPE) and this one was never tested by any country. only tested by Mowag who wanted to sell it to Switzerland.
