Mac opening game zoomed

How do you even manage to play with it like that? Have you changed the resolution settings from the launcher or in game so it fits in the screen?

In a word, badly. I have to drop my screen resolution to 2048x1152 and then run the game at that and deal with a reduction in frame rate.

We've had this issue or something very similar before a few updates ago and it was fixed a week or two after. I wouldn't be too bothered, but I'm right in the middle of some premium time now!

Ah well, I guess the Great Snail must feed...

ya it does sound pretty good doesn't it, and on top of that, it actually does work (try it again, actually read and follow all of it exactly; if you're still having issues reply to this or pm me, whatever, lmk exactly what's goin on n we can sort this out)

Oh crud, that resolution fix in the game worked, I was looking in the launcher. It's off by 30px or so for resolution but that's fine I guess. Thanks!

ok, so, as u know the launcher has default resolutions already listed and available for u to select, but you can actually utilize literally any resolution u want; u just have to edit some game files—lemme walk ya through it

also just an fyi, these instruction are for users playing war thunder through steam, or who at least have it in their steam library; if that's not u, you'll have to do things a little different...anyway

FOR STEAM USERS:

—> open Steam.app

—>navigate through your game library/Mac library or whatever to locate War Thunder (this needs to actually be done THROUGH the Steam client, not just by using the desktop/dock shortcut)

—>right-click "War Thunder"

—> select "Properties"—> "LOCAL FILES"—>"BROWSE LOCAL FILES"

^you are now entering a holy place, a sacred haven for those who worship the Great Gaijila, be mindful, for He is always watching^

—> Macintosh HD⁩ ▸ ⁨Users⁩ ▸ ⁨your name or whatever ▸ ⁨Library⁩ ▸ ⁨Application Support⁩ ▸ ⁨Steam⁩ ▸ ⁨steamapps⁩ ▸ ⁨common⁩ ▸ ⁨War Thunder⁩ ▸ config.blk

—> right-click "config.blk" —> "Open With" —> {for this part, you just need some sort of basic text editing software, nothing really that fancy; I personally use TextEdit which is a homegrown Apple.co application anyway, so ofc this is what I recomend}

*you should now be operating within the TextEdit.app (or whatever app you're using)*

—> under video, you will see the resolution that has already been selected through the game or launcher; you don't want this particular resolution (unless maybe you do, in which case y r u even reading this anyway??) —> just change the res to literally whatever the heck you want (just keep in mind the format of "w x h")

—> on the top of the screen, beside "TextEdit", select "File", and simply just save it ("config.blk — Edited" will be just "config.blk" once again)

—> click on the file name ("config.blk", still from within TextEdit, and make sure to LOCK the file

^the reason for this is because if left unlocked, your manual input change to the res will not remain, and as soon as the game is launched it will just return to one of the default resolutions—the flipside to this is that you can now no longer change any of the graphic settings from within the launcher nor the game itself, while the configuration file is locked (so make sure the graphics are set to how u want them beforehand, changing the res should be your last step)—nothing you do here is really permanent, you can always unlock/relock/re-unlcock/re-relock/re-reblah blah u get the point the file and edit it as many times as you like, just remember that when it is locked, it's locked, and must be unlocked again if u want control over graphics settings from within the WT app)

So that's basically it. idk how computer literate all of u r so i did dumb it down quite a bit just for safety

Spoiler

P4339.png

BUT, if any of u gentlemen still need clarification/help whatever, just lemme know

Also, editing the configuration file like this is totally allowed (no sarcasm), so you need not worry about "OMG MY ACCOUNTS GONNA GET BANNED FOR THIS OMG" lol no...it's fine, don't worry about it srsly

Guys, until this gets fixed, I have a temporary solution. Read carefully.

—> System Preferences

—> Displays

—> [Built-In Retina Display] Display

—> Resolution: —> Scaled —> Default

*¶* —> {hover the cursor over "Default"; "Looks like ___ x ___"} >>>> {this is the resolution for which your display is scaled to by default}

—> open the War Thunder launcher

—> ensure the game is set to launch in "fullscreen"

—> set the game's resolution to match the one for which your display is scaled to by default {see *¶* for reference to determine this resolution value}

—> launch the game

I there, I finally got it to work (sort of)... The problem is that the default resolution of my MacBook Pro is 1680 x 1050 and the closest resolution available in the game is off by 30 pixels. Even though this seems negligible, it is enough to blur the image.

So, at least now the game is playable, but the image sucks and many details are lost.

Let's hope they come up with a solution soon.

Anyone knows anything about the ticket that was submitted to WG? Did they give any reply? Is it worth submitting more tickets?

Thanks guys!

I sent one a couple days ago, and as I said, they said dev team was working on it, but I wouldn't count on it so soon, as the other time this happened it took around two weeks

You can also change the res manually by editing the game files. Here's how

—> open Steam

—> [you are now in Steam.app] locate War Thunder in your Steam LIBRARY

—> [still in Steam.app] right-click War Thunder

—> [still in Steam.app] PROPERTIES —> LOCAL FILES —> BROWSE LOCAL FILES

—> [you are now in Finder.app] locate "config.blk" (this is the configuration file) within your "War Thunder" folder

—> [still in Finder.app] right-click "config.blk" —> OPEN WITH —> OPEN WITH TextEdit (this is just a very basic text editing software; it is made by Apple and thus should already be installed on your Mac by default — although using alternatives is possible, TextEdit is what I personally use and so ofc what I recommend)

—> [you are now in TextEdit.app] look under the "video" section, these are your graphic settings — first ensure you see "fullscreen" and not "windowed" — change the resolution to whatever one you need (just remember it must be "w x h") ("config.blk" is now "config.blk—editedor something like that)

—> [still in TextEdit.app] examine the menu bar at the very top of your screen and locate FILE

—> FILE —> SAVE ("config.blk—edited"or whatever it is is now once again simply "config.blk")

—> [still in TextEdit.app] click on the file name ("config.blk"), and LOCK it

ROLL CREDITS

the configuration must be locked to keep the changes you made to it manually; if you leave it unlocked it will just revert to some default settings as soon as you launch the game — that being said, once the file is locked, you are no longer able to change any of the graphic settings from within the actual game or launcher (they require unrestricted access to the configuration file for this); because of this, make sure you have all the rest of your settings the way you want before changing the resolution as shown above (or if you feel confident and think you know what you're doing, you can always just change them from within the text file as well) — note that no cahnges you make to the configuration file are truly permanent; you can always go back and edit the file differently or have it revert to default and then change it again over and over as many times as you like (so you need not worry about corrupting any of the files; if you typed in an incorrect value or messed up the format or something, just have it revert to default by unlocking the file again and starting up the launcher, and you can try it again) — just remember whether you left it locked or unlocked, and what effect this has

also as a sidenote, this is completely allowed, so you don't need to worry that the kgb is gonna kidnap you and ban your account or anything

Now the launcher itself is zoomed... If I open the game via right-click on the launcher, using "show content" and maneuver to the war thunder icon, i can start the game. But if i change the resolution ingame, a crash appears (see screenshot).

You can launch by pressing enter. I have been playing somewhat decently using that fix about lowering the resolution to the apparent resolution of your display (borders are screwed up and resolution is awful, but it beats not playing at all). In case you haven't done that yet, you can do it even with the zoomed in launcher by using tab and the arrows to select the resolution selection. bar, then using spacebar to drop it and select the one you want (if you press enter at any moment, it will launch the game).

Just got it to display properly on mine. I'm on a 27" iMac... Normal screen res 5120x 2880. On the Launcher, set the screen res to 2560 x 1440, which is half both dimensions... in other words a quarter the resolution. Make sure Full Screen is set – not window. This launched the game to fill the monitor exactly.
