What is it?
A post soviet upgraded Shilka, offered by Russian and Belarusian manufacturers. Features include a new FCS, better mobility, and 4 Igla anti-aircraft missiles.

Why we need it?

Currently between Shilka and Tunguska there is a huge gap of capabilities and accordingly, BR. This has implications for trying to put together 8.7-9-7 lineups since at that BR area the Shilka is not a viable SPAA because of the proliferation of helicopters armed with ATGMs. Hence, we need an intermediate SPAA.

HIstory

After the dissolution of the USSR, the manufacturers of the Shilka found that there were still a lot of the obsolete systems active, both in the countries that were part of the USSR as well as allies. Meaning, very important business opportunities if modernization packages were to be offered. Even to this day, companies from a lot of former soviet or Warsaw Pact countries are still offering new modernization options.

The vehicle that i'm suggesting in this opportunity is offered by  the Ulyanovsk Mechanical Plant of Russia and the Minotor Service Enterprice from Belarus. It consists of a deep overhaul of the vehicle systems. Among them, a new hydrostatic transmission and the use of more ergonomic and modern components which allow to raise the maximum speed to 60 km/h in order to keep pace with MBTs. The vehicle also got laser warning systems and new totally passive optical systems, leading to an increased survivability. The entirety of the analogical FCS components were replaced by digital ones, leading to much higher capability of target tracking and more effective fire solution, translated into an incre ased hit probability from 0.07-0.12 for the original vehicles to 0.3-0.6 with the upgrade. On top of that, two dual Igla missile launchers were added to the sides of the turret increasing the vehicle kill range to 5.2km.

Hello,

Your second poll question lacked a 'no' option, all suggestion poll questions require a 'no' or negative answer. I've edited a 'no' option for question two for you.

Open for discussion.

  • Thanks 1

I like the idea

but I'm a bit over the fence with this one

Personally, I would like to see it in game, but would prefer Russian SPAA systems like the Yensei to come first

there are other suggestions for SPAAs filling that gap

8.7 sounds reasonable to me, considering how Igla cannot pull that many G's making it pretty easy to avoid but could be extremely effective against jets taking hard exposed turns. +1

That shilka could fight the G.91 better than other existing SPAA in the soviet tree, zsu-37-2 included.

9.3BR seems good for it, the isue with 9.0 would be the 8.0 planes it could face.

As it is a rather modern variant form the years 2000, it seems okay to put it at 9.3

+1

Also,  Alan_Tovarishchwould you mind adding in the tags "ZSU23-4M5" and remove tungunska?
