+1 from me, Voted yes, But.... due to the time Period these tanks were modified.  They would very likely have had access to DM23 APFSDS which came about around the same time.  Plus they were kept in service slightly longer than the Leopard 1, which means they may possibly have had access to later 105mm apfsds in the real world.  Placement in the current BR system would be difficult, better armor, and access to much more powerful ammo than the Leopard1's of the time, but no stabilizer.

It doesn't need to have access to it, but I do see what you are saying and it would be nice just to have it no matter it's placement.

Edit: If anyone is able to find the armour values of the new gunshield/mantlet and could post it in the comments I would be very grateful

iirc its just a very thin steel sheet cover. the original cover is still under it.

huh. so that extra armor sheet on the front is basically just a schurzen for the front? 'aight.

yes they had to drill up the diameter of the 90mm so the L7 could fit. and to make that thing waterproof again they applied that "shield". sorry to disappoint you :(

Is there any documentation of its mantlet installation?

nope. i was in the tank-museum munster. the guide (was BW tanker in that time on the german M48) told me that the BW didnt want to buy the upgrade-set of the A5, so the BW ''customized'' old mounts. i saw the new ''mantlet'' detached. its not really thick i would guess max. 15mm

It's thicker than just 152 mm.

I remember its mantlet is similar to M60A1 by gun mount.

Well, unless you want that tank to have the same 152 mm gun shield as the current Patton A1 it is

It would be an interesting 7.7 or even  8.0 tank (if it got the DM23 APFSDS round), wouldn't make sense being higher due to the lack of gun stabilization and overall worse armor compared to the M60's which sits at 7.7. It would certainly help Germany in the armor department which it lacks severely and would make for a more balanced nation. Germany would still retain a flanking/sniping tank the leopard and get a slower but better armored tank thus making it slightly more suitable to face enemies frontally. Big plus to this suggestion!

I support. I would like to see all nations get the vehicles that were used by their military. +1

As far as BR goes, I think both the Leopard I and the M60 got under-tiered, and this should be at about 8.0 (one thing to keep in mind is that the lineup will affect combat performance. An M48A5 and an M60 will perform as a unique combo from a Leopard I and M48A2GA2).

Also, Gaijin may have ruined this by putting the M47 as a premium, but it seems to me it would have made sense to make the post war German tree the West German tree, with East German equipment as premium (given that West Germany is the political predecessor to the current German state and was responsible for developing uniquely German equipment).

Maybe we can persuade them to change the M47 to be a T-54 and put the German M47 in the regular tree (maybe keeping the premium M47 as a limited edition premium or replacing it with one using a special skin).
