Maybe (it's been a while since I read about Shturm). What I remember from when you first posted your suggestion and I read a bit about it in other sources there was a mid-90's modification to the Shturm that increased it's mobility, acceleration and it's top speed (by around 5-10 kmh?). But since Russians add M at the end for modifications I guess we are thinking of the same.

Considering other nations will now have up to 3 excellent ATGM firing vehicles with 1.71, I think USSR is badly needing some love in this regard and a small, very fast and mobile ATGM carrier would be a great answer (the prototype BMP with the horrible Malyutka is definitely not the answer - Konkurs and Fagot yes, but not Malyutka). I hear BRDM2 with ATGM has been confirmed, but something on tracks that would be mobile in snow as well would be great, like Shturm and BMD. What's Shturm's reverse speed?

Honestly I want the USSR to be expanded into Warsaw Pact faction because other Communist countries had some truly amazing kit (and that way tanks from other countries could be in regular tree, not just irregular rare event vehicles). Heck, just thinking of what Yugoslavs did to Milans and Malyutkas or that ATGM vehicle with a 10 meter long folding arm for city fighting (shooting ATGMs over house roofs while the vehicle is in complete cover and safety) or various modifications of OT-60 and BVP-1 for ATGM, SPG and SPAA applications make me tingle. :D

PS:  it's a sexy looking thing, isn't it? :)

Unfortunately it seems the 9P149M entered service in 2014 and I'm not aware of another variant. Where did you read about it?

I have no idea. Like I said it's been quite a while since I did any reading on it, I just remember there was a slight modernisation mid-90's (1995 or 1996) that was focused basically only on mobility. They didn't do anything except give it a stronger engine (and MAYBE transmission) for higher top speed on road and terrain. It didn't turn into Russian version of Rak 2, but it did go a bit faster.

6.3 Km/h

*shudder*

Was there any Soviet tracked vehicle except for 906 that had reverse speed over 20kmh?

You sure that wasn't a modernization to the MT-LB?

The BMP-3(20Km/H) is the only one, from this era, that I'm aware of.

You just may be right because I quickly searched mt-lb modernisation and according to this: http://www.inetres.com/gp/military/cv/inf/MT-LB.html there was a modernisation in 1995 that gave it a new diesel engine with 50HP more (290HP now) and top speed of 70 kmh.

Now, this is pure speculation, but considering one of the most basic parts of the platform was upgraded, wouldn't that part be kept in the Shturm modification as well? Unless a completely different factory or production line built Shturm from scratch with the old parts, instead of just modifying already-built MT-LB bodies, it stands to reason that Shturms after 1995 would be equipped with the same heart as the basic MT-LB. After all, companies that do similar things to cars, vans (like companies in Europe that build RVs), trucks and so on buy already built vehicle and then tear it apart or simply modify the chassis to their purpose, but almost ALWAYS leaving the engine, transmission and undercarriage as original. And IF they change the engine or tranny they UPGRADE, definitely not downgrade.

At least that's my reasoning. Doesn't mean I'm right, but it seems logical to me.

:(

What's the reverse speed of BMDs? I tried searching, but I personally don't have any documentation and all the internet links I could find focus only on road, offroad and swim speed. Nobody thinks of us poor gamers who only want to reverse the heck out of line of fire of that Leopard or Jaguar 1 looking at us! :(

The Shturm-S was developed and built by KBM and the MT-LB was developed and built by Kharkov Tractor Plant.

I honestly have no idea.

From what I was able to find, the BMD-1 and the BMD-2 both have one reverse gear. The BMD-3 might have 5 reverse gears.

As I stated in T-64 thread I will gladly trade the Lion of... I mean WT T-64 for proper Sprut-SD. 5 reverse gears, hydropneumatic suspension (takes me back to childhood when we had a Citroen :D ), 125mm AT gun, 70kmh road speed, swims, autoloader, no armor, what's not to love?

Can you still say, with what is already in the game and what is coming SoonTM or in 1.73 that it would be unbalanced?

Even the early model, I'm still unsure about. It could probably be balanced with older munitions and no ATGMs. Personally I'd prefer more proper munitions.

Honestly? I think balance in WT is a forgotten concept at this point, even to the devs. With every big patch we see new vehicles that reset the standards anew and make vehicles from previous patch (almost) obsolete. 1.71 is an especially good example of that, doubly so what with the poor excuse of T-64 we are getting.

There are not just a few who are angrily clammoring for Leopard 2, German T-72s (even though not even USSR has them) and so on.

2 days ago the Abrams prototype from 1976 was moved to "further discussion" and we are getting Kpz/Mbt 70 in next patch. And then there is the Chief 10 with armor that just laughs at anything that shoots at it and has APFSDS. While USSR is gettng a joke, a really bad joke, of a broken and blatantly nerfed tank from mid-60s. GG.

What with how completely useless and obsolete these will make current Tier 5 vehicles (except of course German ATGMs with 800mm of pen... that "somehow" nobody ever complained about even though it made IT-1 look like a failed plastic surgery) I will dare say that Sprut-SD would've fit amazingly in 1.71 or 1.73.

Personally I'd prefer to wait until the Leopard 2 and M1 are confirmed be I do a suggestion for it.

This thing should replace the IT-1 in my opinion, so all ATGMs are easy to kill when hit.

*sigh*

If you're on the enemy side then you have HESH. Easy kill.

Simple, shoot IT-1 in the turret or the front plate or the side or the rocket and it will one-shot. Hell, with how completely messed up and ridiculous HESH is you can shoot the IT-1 in an antenna and it will one-shot the tank!

And wanna know the best thing? Since it's so slow and immobile it can't run away from you! Which is the complete opposite case with Rak 2 and Jaguar 1 that can do 50kmh in reverse.... AND they have periscopes so they can shoot from full cover while that ability was taken away from IT-1 (cause of you-know-who's whining) a long time ago.
